Trade Shows can be confusing, particulary when you are unfamiliar with the language. Here is a list of the most commonly used trade show terms along with their definitions. I&D:  An abbreviation for Installation and Dismantling.

I&D Houses:  Companies that install and dismantle trade show exhibits.

IAEM (INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF EXPOSITION MANAGERS):  Trade association for exposition producers.

ICC:  An abbreviation for Interstate Commerce Commission.

ID SIGN:  Copmany name sign, usually with name, booth number, city, and state.

IMPORT:  To bring internation goods into a country, in internation sales. The importer is usually the buyer or an intermediary who accepts and transmits goods to the buyer.

IMPORT LICENCE:  A document required and issued by some governments authorizing the importation of goods into their individual countries.

INCENTIVE RATE:  A lower-than-usual tariff rate assessed because a shipper or consignee offers a greater volume of freight. The incentive rate is assessed for that portion exceeding the normal volume of business.

INDEPENDANT UNION:  Labor union not affiliated with organizations such as Congress of Industrial Organizations or the American Federation of Labor.

INDEPENDENT SERVICE CONTRACTOR:  Any company (other than the designated "official" contractors listed in the exhibitor sevice manual) providing a service (display installation adn dismantling, models/demonstrators, florist, photographers, audiovisual, ect.) and needing access to an exhibit any time during installation, show dates, and/or dismantling.

INDEPENDENT SHOW MANAGEMENT COMPANY:  A for-profit show management company.

INDUSTRIAL SHOW:  Private show, sponsered by one company to introduce new products, ect.

INFRINGEMENT:  Use of floor space outside exclusive booth area.

INLAND BILL OF LADING:  A bill of lading (B/L) used in transporting goods overland to the exporter's internation carrier. Although a through bill of lading can sometimes be used, it is usually necessary to prepare both an inland bill of lading and an ocean bill of lading for export shipments. INLINE BOOTH:  Exhibit space with exhibit booths on either side or back. Also known as Inside Booth.

INSERTS:  Interchangeable copy or art panels.

INSIDE BOOTH:  Exhibit space with exhibit booths on either side or back. Also known as Inline Booth.

INSTALLATION:  Setting up exhibit material to presecribe set-up instructions and drawings.

INSTALLATION & DISMANTLING:  The set-up and tear down of exhibits. Also know as I&D.

INSTALLATION CONTRACTOR:  May be the "preferred" Installation Contractor (as designated by show management) or "independent" Installation Contractor (hired directly by exhibitor). Responsible for supervision and coordination of labor for installation and dismantling.

INTERACTIVE EXHIBITS:  Exhibits in which the visitor is involved with the exhibit in a proactive way.

INVENTORY:  Total amount of furniture and equipment available for show.

ISLAND BOOTH:  An exhibit booth that is exposed on all sides to the aisle.

ISLAND UNIT:  A display that may be viewed from four sides.
